The Link to the Allen 1995 article is incorrect[edit]

It should be but it links to something else -bb (talk) 13:51, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am somewhat confused by the characterization of Schliemann as a "pioneer", seeing as large parts of the article describe how unscientific and destructive his methods were, and there isn't any significant substantiation anywhere as to any meaningful innovations he contributed to the scientific field of archaeology. From what I understand, he was as much of a pioneer in archaeology as Josef Mengele was a pioneer in medicine. Noxteryn (talk) 14:58, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

to compare him with mengele is just polemic - Schliemann did not kill people while devoloping the archaeological method! (talk) 07:25, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is in German, but it mentions the scientific methods introduced by Schliemann and still in uns today: (talk) 10:06, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Amateur archaeologist[edit]

Is this "title" correct? As far as I can see he got a proper PhD in 1869 and started excavations after that. (talk) 07:26, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Along with Arthur Evans?"[edit]

This citation is from the legacy section - but Evans was a generation younger! (talk) 11:54, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have now invested some time in clearing this article of polemical and subjective statements and adding references. Unfortunately everything was reset and I have little desire to do the work again. What a shame! If someone is working on a revision again, the article in German would be a good source... (talk) 13:23, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"David Traill wrote that the examiners gave him his PhD on the basis of his topographical analyses of Ithaca, which were in part simply translations of another author's work or drawn from poetic descriptions by the same author."

This is something that traill wrote but it is not true. Several people worked with the documents in the archive of the University of Rostock and published about this PhD procedure:
